At MIDCARDS, we are big fans of the art on MTG cards. So much so, a big feature of our Instagram content is matching the cards with nail art.
After each month we will gather together our matches in a blog post, with a short explanation of how we would use each card in a Commander deck.
December 2024 included 11 Secret Lair cards from the 20 Ways to Win Commander deck.

Kitnap
Why use it in a Commander deck?
Use this aura to gain control of a target creature.
Tap the creature if you have chosen to gift a card. If not, three turns to wait!
Use in decks control decks with Blue.

Stargaze
Why use it in a Commander deck?
An X spell in Black!
A great draw sorcery to use at any time in the game to suit your needs. Get some cards in your hand and your graveyard.
Just don’t forget to lose the life too!
Use in graveyard recursion decks with Black.

Phelia, Exuberant Shepherd
Why use it in a Commander deck?
A great attack trigger for tricky opponents or for your own cards with ETB triggers.
Get the benefit of temporary removal to exile something causing you problems. If using on your own targets, get a buff for Phelia too.
Use this exuberant dog in a ficker deck with White.

Farsight Ritual
Why use it in a Commander deck?
An instant for draw. Bargain to look at eight cards rather than four - then pick two to go in your hand.
Use in decks with Blue.

Sugar Coat
Why use it in a Commander deck?
An aura to use at instant speed!
Pacify a big threat as soon as you need to by turning it into a Food.
Use in any deck with Blue.

Cryptic Coat
Why use it in a Commander deck?
Get some card advantage and create an unblockable creature.
Enjoying the effects? Or lose your create it is attached to? Pay 1 and a Blue to return this equipment to your hand!
Use in decks with Blue.

Incandescent Aria
Why use it in a Commander deck?
A sorcery to deal some damage.
Potential for widespread removal with 3 damage to each nontoken creature.
Just be sure yours are tokens or are tough enough to take it!
Use in decks with Red/Green/White.

Candy Trail
Why use it in a Commander deck?
An artifact with scry 2.
Pay to sacrifice then gain 3 life and draw a card… sound familiar?
Use in any deck.

Go-Shintai of Life's Origin
Why use it in a Commander deck?
A five colour tap recursion ability to return an enchantment from your graveyard to the battlefield.
Not only that, Shrine tokens can also be generated whenever a Shrine enters the battle.
Use as a Commander in a Shine enchantment deck.

Approach of the Second Sun
Why use it in a Commander deck?
This sorcery can make you a winner.
Cast it the first time to put it ready in your library and gain some life in the process. Your opponents need to stop the next part…
Cast a second time? You win.
Use in decks with White.

Felidar Sovereign
Why use it in a Commander deck?
A 4/6 cat beast with vigilance, lifelink and a win con. Use the lifelink ability on this creature, or gain your life another way.
More than 40 life at your upkeep? Win the game!
Use in lifegain decks with white - also great in a cat typal deck.

Happily Ever After
Why use it in a Commander deck?
A very wordy but useful enchantment. 5 life and draw a card for all - then you can check off the 'to do' list!
At the beginning of your upkeep, meet all three conditions and win the game.
Use in WUBRG lifegain decks.

Triskaidekaphile
Why use it in a Commander deck?
A creature allowing you to have no maximum hand size, as well as a mana ability for draw.
Not only that, but have 13 cards in hand at your upkeep to win the game!
Use in draw decks with Blue.

Revel in Riches
Why use it in a Commander deck?
Treasure tokens! This enchantment loves them!
An opponent's creature dies? You create a Treasure token.
Ten or more Treasures at your upkeep? Win the game!
Use in removal decks with Black.

Helix Pinnacle
Why use it in a Commander deck?
An enchantment that brings its own shroud.
Cheap to play but expensive to maintain. Pay X to add tower counters.
To win the game, have 100 or more tower counters at your upkeep.
Use in decks with Green where you can generate a lot of mana.

Simic Ascendancy
Why use it in a Commander deck?
An enchantment with a mana ability that benefits itself.
Add growth counters to it whenever one of your creatures receives a +1/+1 counter.
Only 20 or more growth counters needed at your upkeep to win the game!
Use in counter decks with Blue and Green.

Sol Ring
Why use it in a Commander deck?
A low cost artifact that taps for 2 colourless mana.
Lovely!
Use in any deck.

Maze's End
Why use it in a Commander deck?
A land that generates colourless mana, plus more... Pay 3 and tap to bounce it and replace it with a Gate.
Why would you do that? Because having ten or more different Gates wins you the game!
Use in decks with Gates.

Enduring Ideal
Why use it in a Commander deck?
This high-cost sorcery lets you search for an enchantment and put it on to the battlefield.
Use in enchantment decks with White.
